Hi to all Internet Instructors....

Just to review the attendance policy and to make sure you cover this

policy with your online students. Attendance is mandatory online and

each and every student needs to be informed of this policy. In addition

to the attendance policy the student should refer to the Academic

Withdrawal Policy located in the 1997-98 Park College Bulletin, page 16.

I have pasted the policy into this message.

Thanks - Cathy

ADDENDUM TO THE 1996-97 PARK COLLEGE CATALOG

ACADEMIC WITHDRAWAL, LEAVE OF ABSENCE,

AND FINANCIAL REFUND POLICIES

EFFECTIVE DATE: JULY 1, 1996

ACADEMIC WITHDRAWAL

Park College reserves the right to withdraw a student from a

class(es) if the student does not meet his/her financial obligation or

fails to attend classes. Any student failing to attend a class(es) for

two consecutive weeks, without approved excuse, will be institutionally

withdrawn (unofficially withdrawn) and notified my mail that a grade of

"F" will be recorded. Excused absences can be granted by the

instructor for medical reasons, school sponsored activities, and

employment-related demands including temporary duty.

The last documented date of attendance will be used on all

students, as well as institutionally, generated withdrawals. If the

institution cannot document "Last date of attendance, it MUST be assumed

that the student never attended class.

Students must officially withdraw from a class(es) no later than

two-thirds of the way through the term in order to receive a "W". If a

student does not officially withdraw by this time, a grade of "F" will

be recorded.

In order to "officially" withdraw: Students enrolled through the

traditional sixteen week program must initiate a total withdrawal from

all classes and/or residence halls in the Dean of Students' Office

before any academic withdrawal can be made. Students continuing

enrollments but wishing to withdraw from an individual class must

contact the Registrar's Office. Students enrolled in accelerated

programs must withdraw at their home site. Withdrawals by telephone

will not be accepted.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

A student may request a Leave of Absence from all courses in order

to avoid an unofficial withdrawal if he/she needs to be absent for more

than two consecutive weeks of class(es). Students must request the

leave of absence in writing. The written request should be sent to the

Registrar's office (16 week program students) or at the home site

(accelerated program students). A student may be granted a single leave

of absence in any 12 month period and it may no exceed 60 days in

length. The institution will not place additional charges on the

student for any period covered by an "approved" leave of absence. An

approved leave of absence will not affect a student's in-school status

for the purposes of deferring SFA loans. A student who fails to return

from a documented leave of absence will no longer be enrolled at the

institution and is not eligible for an in-school deferment of loans.
