We summarize the classical theory of the trigonometric transformation and of the Prüfer transformation for self-adjoint differential systems and present an overview on the discrete analogue of these concepts. We also offer some applications of these discrete transformations in oscillation theory of Sturm-Liouville second order difference equations.
