II. Movie: "The Machine That Changed the World: Part I" 
    Discussion: Computer - Originally a person who did computations (arithmatic) 
    Military & Space Have been the catalyst for modern computers: 
        Babbage: Designed 1st programmable mechanical computer for the 
                 Astronomical Societies computations.
        ENIAC: WWII Eckert & Mauchly (Trajectory Computation) 
               First Electronic Computer Lead John von Neumann 
               (stored program idea) into computers
        Alan Turing: (Turing Test & Turing Machines - CS Theory) 
            Colossus: Code Breaking Computer (WWII) 

Changes since the movie: 
        Apple - Fastest growing company??? Prob. not anymore 

        Turing suspected that the Turing test would be passed by the 
        year 2000 - Hasn't really happened. 
        
        The restricted Turing test (conversation limited to certain subjects) 
        has been passed. 

        Chess - Can beat all but the best chess players. 
        Gary Kasparov (World Chess Champion) lost to IBM's Deep Blue. 
        Now machines can "beat" all people. Note: Deep Blue 
        was custom designed to play chess and, prior to beating Kasparov, 
        optimized by another world chess champion working with the IBM team.
