Sakai Chat

In this course, we investigated several different CSCW systems and then were charged with finding ways to improve the chat area of Sakai, a Course Management System.

We started out with learning what Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) were and investigating a few of these systems. We were then asked to look at the chat area of Sakai and try to come up with some improvements.

First we were to write a prospectus laying out what has been done and what changes would enhance the chat in Sakai. After receiving feedback from our peers we were to create scenarios. Scenarios are key during requirements analysis as well as during design. They can prompt communication between users and designers and also among designers. Having scenarios when designing a system, brings a shared understanding amongst users and developers of what the new system will be and operate.

The next step was to create a low fidelity prototype, receive feedback from peers and revise the prototype. Finally, I did a usability study and found these results.
