Current Research Projects

  • Assessing Human Behavior from Internet Usage [Supported by: National Science Foundation]
  • - This project designs techniques for extracting meaningful data emerging from human interactions with emerging technologies like Internet and Smart-Phones, and subsequently design classification algorithms to understand human behavior. Applications of this research are in pervasive mental health care, advancing cyber security and detecting cyber bullying.

  • Secure Communications in Wireless Sensor Networks [Supported by: Army Research Office and DARPA]
  • - This project will design and deploy cross-layer algorithms for enhnacing security and privacy of wireless sensor networks operating in the presence of adversaries.

  • Trustworthy, Secure and Privacy Preserved Communications in Vehicular Networks [Supported by: National Science Foundation, Department of Education and UM System Research Board]
  • - We are designing algorithms integrating theories from Computer Sciences (Wireless Communications, Information Management and Machine Learning) with theories from Transportaiton Engineering (Platoon Dispersion and Level of Service) to enhance trust, security and privacy in emergent vehicular networks.

  • Multi-sensor Fusion Techniques for Object Tracking [Supported by: National Science Foundation]
  • - We are designing fusion algorithms to integrate data of multiple modalities (accelerometers, gyroscope, GPS and vision) to localize and track mobile objects in both indoor and outdoor settings.

  • Protecting Information Confidentiality in Critical Infrastructure Systems [Supported by: National Security Agency]
  • - This project will design algorithms for protecting confidentiality in modern critical infrastructures like Smart-Grids which are characterized by tight cyber-physical interactions. The algorithms designed integrate network topology design, formal methods and control theories.
