Collaborative decision making based on argumentation

Argumentation based collaborative decision making is a process of reaching consensus in a decision making group of stakeholders through argumentation by evaluation of different possible alternative solutions of an issue. The web-based intelligent argumentation system allows stakeholders to post their arguments and evidences on different alternatives of an issue, assign weights and priorities to the arguments and reach the most favorable alternative using fuzzy inference engine over the Web. This software also supports Multi-Criteria Decision Making, in which the decision making group can analyze each alternative against each criteria individually. Our tool can compute the performance scores of all the criteria of each alternative based on the argumentation tree, this way we can obtain the values in the decision matrix. We believe that the quality of the decision made by the decision making group depends on the number of criteria and the quality of the criteria set. Exchange of information among the stakeholders improves the collaboration and drives towards the collective intelligence, which enhances the thorough analysis of alternatives. The process of decision making involves a very close analysis of various available alternative choices and identifying the best alternative that has the highest favorability among all the alternatives. A issue may involve many stakeholders who make strategic decisions and the decision thus made exhibits a consensus among those stakeholders. There is a lot of information exchange in the form of artifacts and arguments among the experts while making a strategic decision and especially when the situation is uncertain. When these stakeholders are geographically dispersed, it is unmanageable to document the artifacts, discussions and arguments among them. Our software allows stakeholders to post their arguments on different alternatives and arguments, and helps the group to reach consensus on an alternative which is favored by most of the stakeholders and it facilitates the resolution of conflicts among the stakeholders by explicitly capturing rationale of stakeholders.
