Taste the culture: A glance at Chinese Spring Festival 2004This year the Chinese Spring Festival Celebration was successfully held in UMR Leach Theater by Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA). Pingan He the president of CSSA said:"this year, more than 800 members of the community of the attended the event, known to offer food and entertainment, and many more people had to be turned away due to lack of space." "We are very glad to have so many people joined us in this great celebration". Said Xiaoting Liang, the director of the performance,"Actually it was the biggest Chinese Spring Festival celebration in the history of CSSA at UMR". "We have 7 committees who took in charge of food, performance, publicity and donation separately," said Liang. "There are many volunteers who helped through the whole event." "There are different kinds of programs including the solo, chorus, dance and traditional Chinese Fashion Show." said Piyong Yu the associate director of the performance. "What's more, we invited the students from Rolla Shaolin Lohan School of Kung Fu to give Kong Fu show." While the performance is highly praised, the UCE crowded with people who eager to have a taste of Chinese food. Junfang Gao who take in charge of food said: "we want to give them a real taste of Chinese food, so we bought different kinds of seasonings directly from the Chinese market in St. Louise, nearly 20 volunteers worked two days straight to prepare the food for nearly 800 people." "I'm very glad to be one of the volunteers to prepare food. It's an interesting experience", said Di Xiao, one of the volunteers. "Besides the wonderful performance and food of the night, we want to show our thanks to the Rolla Community and all the students who support our CSSA in 2003" said Pingan He, " we also want to share the Chinese culture with our friends".
