Ride-sharing and Trip Recommendation for Smart-transportation

In this project, the objective is to determine how ridesharing can help lowering the travel cost for a user who already has a preplanned trip by introducing the Ridesharing- Inspired Trip Recommendation Query. In the first phase, the trip of the query initializer is matched with other users by calculating a similarity score. In the second phase, a heuristic-based algorithm is employed to generate a new trip recommendation by enumerating through the top-matched trips and the preference ranking profiles such that all POIs in the recommendation are highly preferred by the matched users. The results showed that the proposed solution significantly reduces the travel cost while successfully selecting POIs that are preferred. Also, its effectiveness is shown to be comparable to the solution of an optimal algorithm with a much better performance in terms of efficiency and scalability.
