Books by Eugene Warren

In my previous life as Eugene Warren, I published several chapbooks and one full-length collection of my poems. Although these books are out of print, I have copies of two of them that I will gladly sell to anyone who gets me the price.

The books are Geometries of Light and The Similitudes. Information about the books and how to order them follows.

Cover of Geometries of Light. Geometries of Light: Harold Shaw Publishers, 1981. 104 pages, perfect-bound.

This book collects poems written between 1964 and the late 1970s. Poems in this collection appeared in a variety of anthologies and magazines, including Christianity and Literature, Christianity Today, The Country of the Risen King, Ktaadn, Sou'wester, and Webster Review. Of the poems, "Bareback in Kansas" has been most widely reprinted.

Christographia 35: A Spring Bough to Rose

Not by chance
the cock sparrow
treads his dance
on the narrow
icy limb.
Love is given
out of wintery
heaven; we,
in our long-wed
limbs, dance,
a slow & secret
step, tread
a measure narrow
but deep, find
our branch steep
with glancing light.
Cover of The Similitudes. The Similitudes: Carmarthan Oak Press, 1983. 26 pages, wire-stitched (stapled).

These poems were written in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Some of them first appeared in For the Time Being, Focus/Midwest, Image, and Poems of the Third Epoch. An excerpt from a letter on "The Redeemed Imagination" (by Eugene Warren) is included. The title comes from a long sequence, "The Similitudes." These poems are presented in several columns that allow for different readings: they are a kind of multi-track poem.

Excerpts from "The Similitudes"

Since these poems are hard to represent in HTML, here are few excerpts instead, to give you a sense of their flavor.

the bell
is not the sound

the sound
is through the bell

the impact
from beyond
sets it humming

when I awaken next to you
it is the music itself
of our marriage
I salute with lips & palms
encore on behalf
unseen footprints
of the true harmony
