HKN student company dinner details
Company responses so far (from Sandia/Adtran):
- No door prizes, due to competition for providing the best one
- Need about a month advanced notice (Sandia may not be able to get government money)
- Have only one main speaker instead of small company presentations
- Host the day before or after the career fair
- Allow both graduate and undergraduate students to attend
- Have a social/mixer to allow students to talk to everybody, not just those at their table
- Make sure students attend!!
Officer & advisor decisions:
- Dinner will be on Tuesday, February 7, the day before the career fair
- Will begin at 5 PM so companies can host things later in the evening if so desired
- Cost will be $300 per table
- Host in the Havener Center with Chartwells catering
- Five companies will attend, with the possibility for a sixth as a buffer
- 9 people per table, 7 of those being students and a max of 2 company representatives
- Have everyone wear simple nametags
- Allow room for advisors, dean, department chair, career center employees
- Students will have to RSVP: HKN members can sign up first; invitations will extend to graduate students and IEEE members; extra slots will be made available to department students who are referred to by a faculty member (as some assurance that they will attend)
- Aside from HKN members, students wanting to attend will have to complete an application invitation with information such as the following: GPA, year status, US citizen or not, want job or internship, name of faculty sponsor, resume, rank of the companies want to sit with, etc.
- Need commitment: penalty for no show? => faculty sponsor may be best solution
- Speaker will be Wayne Huebner to speak on present research at UMR for no more than 15 minutes. Dr. Beetner has contact information
- Students will submit resumes for a resume book to be distributed to all the companies; all HKN members will have resumes in the book if they choose, whether they were present at the dinner or not
- Setup for the banquet and nametag creation can be pledge service
- Tell representatives that HKN members and selected graduate and undergraduate students will be attending
- Advertising chair, Adam Flynn, will be responsible for contacting students and determining who will attend
- Fundraising chair, Jeff LaBundy, will be responsible for determining if the COC wants to be involved
- Companies need to be contacted before January 17th
- A committee of three of four people needs to be formed
