Fuel Analysis and Characterization

Laboratory for Transportation Fuels and Polymer Processing

Located in the Hy-Point Industrial Park

The Fuel Analysis and Characterization Laboratory is in a section of High Bay 1 at the Laboratory for Transportation Fuels and Polymer Processing. The suite of equipment shown above represents one of the few comprehensive assemblies of coal analytical equipment at a univeristy in the United States. Shown from left to right is the Leco Suflur Analyzer, Leco Ash Fusion Determinator, Leco Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen (CHN) Analyzer, Leco Chlorine Analyzer, and Fisher Coal Analyzer. This equipment can rapidly analyze many different solid materials and properly prepared liquids ranging from coal to cheese. Presently this equipment is used for analyzing the composition and sulfur content of coke that is rarely, but occassionally, produced in supercritical water reformation of hydrocarbons. Analytical testing services are available, please contact us.
