CANAL SLOPE REPAIRS

WALNUT CREEK AND PLEASANT HILL

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

J. David Rogers, Ph.D., P.E., R.G., C.E.G.

Rogers/Pacific was selected by the Contra Costa Water District to provide civil and geotechnical engineering services for the investigation and repair of storm-related slope damage along the Contra Costa Canal. Rogers/Pacific assisted with a field reconnaissance and inventory of storm damage sites along the 45 mile long Contra Costa Canal, orginally constructed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1940, as part of California's Central Valley Project and is the main conveyance feature of the Contra Costa Water District. Extensive erosion and surficial failures of the canal cutslopes required immediate contracting of repair services. At some locations, more serious slope and culvert failures entailed the preparation of construction plans and specifications. In addition to providing these design services, Rogers/Pacific was retained during construction to provide observation and testing services for the District.
