Officer Meeting Minutes 3/11/17

  1. Use labs to excite members about chemistry
  2. Presentations to show Schrenk Society’s value
  3. Sharing files and experiences to make members feel connected
  1. Earth Day Ideas
  1. Talk about stereoisomers
  2. Natural pH indicators, cabbage and hydrangeas
  1. Discussion of the rest of the semester’s meetings
  1. Have a meeting to discuss advising
  2. Earth Day prep
  3. Ferrofluid lab
  4. Elections and earth day reflections
  1. Suggest ideas for better operation in future semesters
  1. Let general chemistry students know about the tutoring help they can get from Schrenk
  2. Do something exciting to keep members interested after the first meeting
  3. Community outreach/service, tutoring and events for local schools, Consider working with other clubs (iGEM, AsChE)

  1. Attendance:
  1. Have two meetings/special meetings for ACS speakers and labs to increase overall attendance
  1. Use afternoon to do labs and presentation
  2. Use evening to discuss Schrenk Society topics
  1. Outreach:
  1. Goal: campus should know who we are
  1. Make people know that we are open to everyone
  2. Make students aware that we are the student section of the ACS
  1. Choose a consistent name to refer to ourselves as
  1. Schrenk Society may not get the point across
  2. Consider calling ourselves ACS to students, check with local ACS
  1. Participation:
  1. How to get people to commit
  1. Show people the value of Schrenk (professional advice, labs, advice from older students)
  2. Let students know we are open to everyone, especially chemistry related fields
  3. T-Shirts,  ACS logo, maybe do brewer science or kaleidoscope
  4. Include T-shirt price in dues
