Missouri S&T gets $1.9 million grant for geophysics software
03/11/2008 14:41 - Missouri S&T Public Relations

Missouri University of Science and Technology has received a $1.9 million educational grant donation from Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT) Inc. Missouri S&T will receive 16 licenses of KINGDOM software through the company’s University Gift Program.

KINGDOM, a Windows-based geoscience interpretation software package, is widely used in the oil and gas industries. The software is capable of conducting 2D and 3D seismic interpretations of oil and gas reservoirs.

The software will be used in existing geophysics courses at Missouri S&T taught by Dr. Kelly Liu and Dr. Stephen Gao in the geology and geophysics program. It will also be used for student and faculty research.

“We expect a significant increase in the marketability of the students in the classes taught with the software package,” says Liu, an associate professor of geophysics.

Gao, also an associate professor of geophysics at Missouri S&T, adds that the donation is timely, given the excellent job market in petroleum, geological and geophysical exploration.
