cave

cave

I have never met owners quite like this: very hospital and yet protective of their cave. They do not let everyone into their cave and allow access only to a select few grottos, and they like to keep the entrance to this cave as natural as possible. This was also the first time I was fed by the owners of a cave (something I would have never expected). Although the owners may be the most memorable thing about this cave, the cave itself is quite amazing. There is a sinkhole entrance (see pictures) and a hand line makes getting out of the cave a lot easier (trust me on this one…I brought a 50 footer that was about 20 feet to short to be completely helpful). After making it down a fairly tight squeeze, you emerge in a comfortable room. It’s not until you take a few steps into this room that you realize how big it is (roughly 30+ feet tall at the bottom of the mound of dirt). There are multiple rooms like the first that you encounter in this cave, but some you have to work to get to. Do not expect a nice easy underground hike because you will be ill prepared. There is crawling and sometimes crawling in some fairly deep mud (to see the cave in its entirety). This is the basic trend of the cave…big room, crawling, another big room, crawling, another big room, etc… (There are some walking passages between big rooms). If you explore this amazing cave to every end, this is easily a two to three hour trip.

Campground cave is a well preserved Pulaski County cave. This cave is accommodating to cavers of all skill sets. Once your inside this cave you'll enjoy several thousand feet of stream passage. The passage has all the usual speleothems. If your adventures enough to make it through a few tight squeezes you will be rewarded with a view that is second to none. One of the last rooms in this cave is filled with flow stone, and rimstone damns. All in all a nice trip that will take about three hours start to finish. There are lots of things to see for the unskilled, and things to see for the skilled. We hope you enjoy this example of Pulaski County caving.
