Sumin Zhu graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Ceramic Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla) in Rolla, Missouri in November 2008.

Prior to Ph.D., Sumin did his masters thesis research on the development of porous silicon carbide based ceramics for diesel particulate filter application at the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SICCAS).

From Sept. 2007 to Jan. 2008, Sumin worked with Hitachi America Ltd. as a materials engineering intern in the Automotive Products Research Lab, where he contributed to multiple R&D projects with materials testing and failure analysis.
