The West Lost Trail Creek Landslide occurred on July 30, 1991 in the upper watershed of the Rio Grande River, 4-1/2 miles below the Continental Divide in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.  8 million cubic meters of rock debris slid down slope in about 25 to 30 seconds, between elevations of 12,400 and 11,000 feet, forming a landslide dam that remains in place.
