This is the Dillon Log House. It houses the Phelps County Museum at 302 Third Street in Rolla.

The Phelps County Historical Society, Inc., is a Missouri benevolent (not-for-profit) corporation, with federal 501(c)3 tax-exempt status. Contributions and donations are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.


Dues are $15 per calendar year. General membership meetings, with appropriate programs and refreshments, are held twice each year, in the spring and fall.


ROUTE 66 CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT PLAN

A public meeting to present and discuss the proposed Route 66 Corridor Management Plan (CMP)will be held on Tuesday evening, 9 February 2010, at 6:00p CST in the Community Room of the Phelps County Courthouse in Rolla. The CMP will set forth guidelines for the preservation, protection, and enhancement of the Missouri Route 66 corridor, including designation as a United States Scenic Byway and All-American Road. Great River Associates of Springfield, which is preparing the Plan, will make an informative and entertaining presentation and answer questions and solicit input concerning the Plan. All interested persons are urged to attend.


2010 -- SPRING MEETING -- 2010

The Spring Meeting of the Phelps County Historical Society will be held on Sunday afternoon, 18 April 2010, at 2:00p CDT in the Community Room of the Phelps County Courthouse in Rolla. Watch this space for information about the special program. We hope you will be able to join us for an afternoon of history and fellowship.

The PCHS sponsors "Christmas at the Courthouse," which is held on the historic square around the Old Courthouse. In 2010 "Christmas at the Courthouse" will be celebrated on Saturday, 4 December, after the Rolla Christmas Parade. The program will include several choral groups, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, refreshments, and tours of the Phelps County Museum and the Old Courthouse. We hope that you will be able to join us for a day of good cheer on Courthouse Square.


The PCHS supports the publication of the Newsletter of the Phelps County Historical Society, an occasional journal. Follow this link to a list of articles that have appeared in the journal.


The PCHS owns three historic properties. The Phelps County Museum (Dillon Log House, across the street from the Old Courthouse), the Old Jail (206 Park Street), and the Old Courthouse (305 Third Street) are open for special events and by appointment. The curator is Diane Henke.


Phelps County's other "heritage" organization also has a homepage on The Web. The Phelps County Genealogical Society has an office in the Old Courthouse. There is also a lot of Phelps County history at the University of Missouri/State Historical Society of Missouri Western Historical Manuscript Collection-Rolla. From 1926 to the late 1970s, Phelps County was traversed by historic Route 66.
