One volume, 373 pages.
The Harris & Janis ledger is a
standard banking ledger of individual accounts from a firm at Ste. Genevieve,
Missouri. Credits and debits are
enumerated and dated, with the earliest being in 1874 and the latest in
1876. The accounts are indexed
alphabetically by surname at the front of the volume.
The ledger also contained nineteen
“Harris & Janis” printed checks, which were enclosed inside. All of the checks were filled out, but only
a few had been canceled. The checks
were signed by “Janis & Cox,” and bear dates in 1874 and 1875.
