This is a reminiscence and history of Bear Creek in Cedar County, Missouri.  The village was originally named Paynterville.

Zula R. Price is descended from the earliest settlers of Bear Creek, then known as Paynterville, in Cedar County, Missouri.  Her father, Charles R. Rickman, came to Bear Creek in 1884 and later was a storekeeper and postmaster.

Mrs. Price recorded her memories of Bear Creek and noted some of the early history of the village.  The village no longer exists as a commercial center.

Mrs. Price now resides in Bolivar, Missouri.  Her typescript was donated to the Western Historical Manuscript Collection through Wilma Jones of Fair Play, Missouri.
