These are business records of a manufacturing firm in Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri, now doing business as Leggett & Platt, Inc.  Included are shipping and sales records, journals, expense records, balance sheets, and account ledgers.

Leggett & Platt was founded in 1883 at Carthage, Missouri, by J. P. Leggett and C. B. Platt.  The company first produced bedsprings and later began to manufacture box springs.  As Leggett & Platt, Inc., the firm supplies components to manufacturers of furniture and bedding, and produces a line of sleep-related furniture.  Carthage is still the corporate headquarters of Leggett & Platt, including the administrative offices, technical center, wire mill, machine shop, and manufacturing plant.  Specialized production facilities and distribution points are located across the country.
