275 “Joplin News
Herald’s Zinc and Lead Handbook,” 1916.
One folder.
This a pamphlet concerning the zinc and
lead industries and mineral production in the Joplin District of Missouri,
Oklahoma, and Kansas. Included are production figures for mines and
mining companies in the Joplin District, and statistics on the international
production, pricing, and consumption of zinc and lead.
The Joplin District as described in the
handbook consisted of Jasper, Lawrence, and Newton counties in Missouri,
Cherokee County, Kansas,
and Ottawa County, Oklahoma.
Joplin was the hub of the district,
although mining development in 1916 was greatest around Webb City, Missouri.
The zinc and lead handbook for 1916 was
the second annual edition published by the Joplin News
Herald. Sold at a nominal cost of
twenty-five cents per copy, sales revenues were augmented by advertising
subscriptions. The handbook contains
statistical information through 1915 on many aspects of the lead and zinc
industries. Much of the information is
presented in tabular form for easy comparisons of local, regional, and
international trends. Twenty-four mining
camps in the Tri-State region are noted.
A separate index to advertisers in the handbook is also included.
