This is an agreement for the sale of two slave children, by Christopher C. Cook to George N. Cook, 21 July 1860, probably in Crawford County, Missouri.  Appended are biographical notes by William P. Elmer of Salem, Missouri, 1955.

Christopher C. Cook (1828‑1900) came to Missouri from Tennessee in 1853.  He settled on the headwaters of the Meramec River, first in Dent County, then in the southwestern corner of Crawford County in the area now known as Cook’s Station.  Cook was a slaveholder.  He served during the Civil War in the 5th Missouri Cavalry (Confederate), and commanded a company of Col. Thomas R. Freeman’s's Missouri Cavalry.  Cook died at his home in Cook’s Station in 1900.

The agreement between the Cooks involved the sale of two slave children, one and four years of age.  Appended to the agreement are notes by William P. Elmer, attorney and legislator at Salem, concerning the Cook family and descendants, 1955.  Elmer gave the document to Elizabeth Dent of Salem, but its present (1988) location is unknown.
