319                  Medical registers, 1871‑1909.

These are registers, 1871‑1900 and 1893‑1909, of physicians, surgeons, pharmacists and dentists in Maries County, Missouri.  The registers list the dates and locations of medical train­ing, or certificates granted by state boards in lieu of examinations.

 

The rolls of medical professionals in Maries County were created in compliance with Mis­souri statutes of 1871, 1881, 1889 and 1899.  The laws were designed to regulate the prac­tice of medicine and to control the sale of drugs and poisons. The registers were part of county records before acquisition by the Old Jail Museum in Vienna.
