This is the clerk’s record book of the Saint Martins School District, which was located north of Versailles and east of Glensted in Morgan County, Missouri.  The records include minutes of meetings, annual enumeration of children and taxpayers, and an account of expenditures by the district.

St. Martins School District No. 5 encompassed parts of twelve sections in townships 43 and 44 North, Range 17 West, in northeastern Morgan County.  The record book is a standard type published for use by school district clerks in Missouri.  There are several categories of records.  The minutes of the annual meetings of the district contain the results of elections of officers, decisions on the duration of school terms, and changes in district boundaries.  The proceedings of the Directors concern the hiring of teachers and the maintenance of school property.  A list of expenditures is recorded separately.  Annual enumeration of students list the name, age, sex and race of each school‑age child, as well as the names of parents or guardians.  About seventy‑five children were enumerated each year, ten percent of whom were black.  A list of taxpayers in the district, teachers’ contracts, and oaths of the directors complete the records.
