R         Lamine Baptist Association (Mo.).

422                  Minutes and history, 1913‑1972.

                                    Four folders, photocopies.

These are records of an association of Baptist churches primarily in Morgan and Cooper counties of Missouri.  Included are minutes of annual conferences in 1913, 1965, and 1972, and an institutional history compiled for the association's centennial in 1972.

The Lamine Baptist Association was formed in 1872 by churches in the western half of the Concord Association.  Although it at times included isolated churches in Miller, Moniteau, Pettis, and Benton counties, it eventually became limited to its traditional strongholds in Morgan and Cooper counties of Missouri.  The first annual conference was held at Freedom Church in Morgan County in October 1872.

This collection includes an institutional history compiled for the association’s centennial in 1972, and minutes for the annual conferences held in 1913, 1965, and 1972.

The history, compiled by Mrs. Farrie L. Cole, Sr., and others, provides summaries of each annual meeting and a history of each member church, including extinct, inactive, and removed congregations.  For most of the church histories a photograph of the church building is included.

There are printed minutes for the annual meetings held at Syracuse Baptist Church (September 1913), First Baptist Church of Otterville (September 1965), and Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Pilot Grove (September 1972).  The member churches subscribed to the tenets of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Missouri Baptist Convention.  Included in the association are the major Baptist congregations in Versailles, Boonville, Otterville, and Stover, as well as churches in smaller communities and rural areas.  In 1913 the association had 30 member congregations, but by 1965 the number had dropped to 17, and by 1972 to 16, including an inactive congregation at Freedom Church near Glensted in Morgan County, where the association was organized.

The minutes of the annual meetings include statistics, both summary and for individual churches, and reports for each area of activity and interest.
