The Morgan County, Missouri, chapter of the American Red Cross was organized on 20 April 1932 in Versailles.  It distributed flour and clothing to needy families, and contributed funds to the national flood relief effort in January 1937.  Chairpersons were Dr. H. N. Lutman and Mrs. A. J. Gunn.

This volume includes minutes of meetings, records of clothing deliveries and flour distribution, and lists of contributors to the national flood relief emergency fund in January 1937.  There are no minutes for 1933 and 1934, although a list of clothing manufacturers and items shipped is included with dates through September 1933.  Entries for 1937 deal solely with the call for flood relief funds.

The first shipment of flour arrived on 24 May 1932, and the records note that, “on account of the warm weather and not knowing any more about it we made lots of blunders and lots of hard feelings.”  Included is a list of recipients, noting the name of the head of the family, number of family members, number of sacks delivered, and the date of delivery.  Several families are designated as “(colored).”  Approximately 350 families are listed.

Shipments of clothing were secured through the American Red Cross Central Cotton Distribution Office.  Included were bolts of cloth, ready-made clothing, and bedding.

The last meeting for which there are minutes was held on 11 September 1936.  Over $500 was raised in January 1937 for flood relief in the Ohio and Mississippi valleys.  A list of individual contributors is included.
