This is a photocopy of a history of Fredericktown, Madison County, Missouri.

 

John P. Skaggs, president of the Madison County Historical Society, loaned this typescript of Betty Lou Gale’s history of Fredericktown for copying to the Western Historical Manuscript Col­lection.  The typescript was formerly in the collection of the late Dr. W. Harry Barron of Freder­icktown, Missouri.

 

The date of the paper is unknown.  Sources listed in the bibliography indicate a date in the 1950s.  The work is as much a contemporary description of the town as it is a history.  It is based on secondary sources, primarily the works of Floyd C. Shoemaker, and on personal communica­tions with several Fredericktown residents.  Demographic information is derived from the 1940 census.
