R Reed, Mabel.
44 Collection,
1847-1872.
One folder.
These are five letters to members of the
Dace family in Missouri from relatives in Texas and Wisconsin. Several letters urge moving to Texas where
land was readily available, and one very bitter letter speaks of being
unsubjugated by the “damd Yankeys” after the Civil War.
Mrs. Mabel Reed of Desloge, Missouri,
donated this group of letters to the Western Historical Manuscript
Collection. Of the five items in the
collection, Mrs. Reed had encapsulated two in clear plastic. The others were left in their original
condition.
