These are papers of a farmer and stock raiser in Maries County, Missouri.  The collection in­cludes family correspondence, obituaries and funeral home cards, election poll books, and records pertaining to Creamer’s work with the Maries County office of the Agricultural Stabi­liza­tion and Conserva­tion Service and the Maries County Highway Commission.

 

Ben Creamer, a native of Maries County, Missouri, operated a farm between Dixon and Vi­enna.  In 1913 he married Allie Eads (1894‑1968), also a native of Maries County.  The Creamers were well‑known throughout the county.  Ben served as a judge of election for the West Fairview precinct, as a board member of the Maries County Agricultural Stabiliza­tion and Conservation Service, and as a member of the Maries County Highway Commission.

 

The Creamer collection includes a combination of family and farm material.  There are many items of family correspondence, much of it from members of the Eads family and ad­dressed to Allie Creamer.  Both the Eads and Creamer families are represented in a collection of obituaries and funeral home cards which will be of use to genealogists.

 

Much of the collection pertains to farm and rural life, such as property tax receipts, live­stock registration papers, correspondence from the Maries County office of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conserva­tion Service, and yearbooks of the Women’s Progressive Farmers As­socia­tion of Missouri.  Miscellaneous items include a premium book for the Maries County Fair Association (1950), poll books for the West Fairview voting precinct (1948‑1956), newslet­ters from Hughes Chapel and the Maries County Circuit of the Methodist Church (1962‑1967), and items from vari­ous election campaigns.  Papers from Ben Creamer’s years on the Maries County Highway Com­mission document the development of the county’s road network.
