505 Memoranda
book, 1871-1883.
One folder, photocopies.
This is a memoranda book of a teacher at
schools in Benton and Pettis counties in Missouri. Included are the names of students, attendance records, and other
information for Fordney (Benton), Prairie Grove (Pettis), and Pin Oak
(Pettis) schools, 1871-1875. There are
also notes on personal business by Bettie McGuire, 1876-1883.
Martin E. McGuire first taught at Fordney
School in Benton County, but most of the entries in his memoranda book concern
teaching at Prairie Grove School in Pettis County. Along with the names of students and attendance records are a
list of visitors to Prairie Grove and the schedules for “exhibitions.” Also included in the volume are notes
concerning Bettie McGuire, 1876-1883, who may have been Martin McGuire’s
daughter. Included are an agreement
between Bettie McGuire and “patrons of Miller County,” and a list of household
goods purchased by McGuire from G. H. Meng.
The last entry, 2 June 1883, is the notation: “At Home. Bettie Northway, Claysville, Boone County,
Mo.”
