R United Evangelical
Lutheran Church
(Cole Camp, Mo.).
526 Collection, 1934-1976.
One folder,
photocopies.
These are the Easter Cantata (1934),
church directory (1972), and fiftieth anniversary program (1976) of the United Evangelical
Lutheran Church
in Cole Camp, Benton County,
Missouri.
The United
Evangelical Church
was founded in 1926 by members of St.
John’s Lutheran Church in Cole Camp. The new church was organized so that the
members “might have an English-speaking, and yet Lutheran church, open
communion, and a more liberal acceptance of fraternal organizations.” The first meetings were held in the Eickhoff
Opera House, then in an empty store building in Cole Camp. The congregation moved into its own church in
1938. Additional historical details, as
well as a roster of members, may be found in the fiftieth anniversary
program.
