Joplin Lodge No. 97 was organized on 7 April 1892.  It was the largest of the Rebekah lodges in the Joplin area.  Thirty members routinely attended its meetings, but for special occasions over a hundred members and visitors could turn out.  Lodge No. 97 had close social and lodge connections with Zinc Lodge of the Rebekahs, and with Odd Fellows Lodge No. 287, both at Joplin.  Lodge No. 97 also regularly cooperated in installations of officers and social events with the Rebekah and Odd Fellows lodges at Blendville, Carterville, Carthage, and Webb City.

The records of the lodge consist of minutes of meetings, annual reports to the state assembly, and membership registers.  The minutes are complete from the organization of the lodge through 1986.  Membership records are complete through the 1970s.  The single volume of annual reports, 1904-1940, include yearly summaries of membership as well as financial information.
