These are the secretary’s record books of the Daughters of the American Revolution chapter in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri.  The records include minutes of meetings, membership and attendance rolls, and miscellaneous papers.

The Joplin Chapter was organized in 1904.  At the peak of the club’s membership in the 1950s, the club counted over eighty members.  Most of the members were from Joplin, but there were also “suburban” members from Sarcoxie and Webb City, Missouri, Miami, Oklahoma, and Liberal, Galena, and Riverton, Kansas.  The Joplin Chapter cooperated in social events and Flag Day ceremonies with the Joplin camp of the Grand Army of the Republic, and Daughters of the American Revolution chapters at Carthage, Webb City, and Neosho.

In addition to its patriotic work, the Joplin Chapter contributed to different charitable causes such as preservation efforts at Arrow Rock, Missouri, scholarship students and programs at the School of the Ozarks, local schools, and libraries.   During World War One, the chapter contributed to the Soldiers’ Library Fund, the Ambulance Fund, and the American Relief Fund, prepared surgical dressings for the American Red Cross, and distributed pillow slips to soldiers from Joplin leaving for training camps.  During World War Two the chapter was active in war bond drives and worked with the American Red Cross and the USO.
