The Bank of Buffalo was organized in 1891. During the period represented by the minute book, the officers and major stockholders included Levi Engle, W. J. Evans, Mike Peyton, D. M. Rush, F. M. Self, W. A. Stanley, and W. Smithpeter. F. M. Self was president of the bank for the last thirty years of its existence. The Bank of Buffalo was a profitable enterprise for its stockholders and remained solvent during the Depression. Through its major stockholders, the Bank of Buffalo had close ties with the O’Bannon Banking Company. In 1941 the O’Bannon firm purchased the Bank of Buffalo.
