These are records of School District No. 2 near Plato in northwestern Texas County, Missouri.  Included are records of the district clerk, 1886-1925, and teachers’ registers, 1893-1927.

Voters in Township 32 North, Range 12 West, organized Texas County School District No. 2 on 6 April 1886.  Hiram King was elected chairman, and K. R. Tracy was elected clerk of the district.  The first order of business was to locate the site for a school in Section 23, a few miles south of the village of Plato, Missouri.

The records of Mill Creek School consist of the records of the district clerk and registers kept by teachers.  The clerks’ records include minutes of annual meetings and meetings of the board of directors, rules and regulations, teachers’ contracts, estimates of school expenses, financial records, lists of taxpayers, enumeration of students, and oaths of directors.  The records are complete for 1886 through 1925.

The teachers’ registers include attendance records, term reports to the district clerk, records of visitors, and monthly summaries.  The last two volumes follow the Welch System for standardized supervision and record keeping.  There are chronological gaps in the records from 1897 to 1900, from 1907 to 1910, and from 1915 to 1921.
