These are
records of Coffey School west of Houston
in Texas County, Missouri.
Included are records of the district clerk, 1936-1950, and a teacher’s
register, 1938-1942.
Coffey School
was located in Section 26 of Township 31 North, Range 11 West, approximately
nine miles west/northwest of Houston, Missouri.
The school was on a parcel of land donated by James Coffey in
1885. Originally School District No. 3,
it was later designated No. 79. Coffey School
consolidated with Houston’s
schools about 1961.
The records of Coffey School
consist of one volume of records kept by the district clerk and another volume
containing the teacher’s register of classes. The clerk’s records were entered
in a volume labeled Official Board of
Education Record for Use in Rural Schools of Missouri. It includes lists of board members, oaths of
directors, minutes of annual meetings of the school, and records of warrants
issued, 1936-1950. The teacher’s
register includes records of attendance, comments on the progress of students,
term statistics, a census of classes by age, and monthly summaries of
enrollment, 1938-1942.
