This is a letter from James Ballard near Mine La Motte in Madison County or St. Francois County, Missouri.  The letter concerns acquisition of apple, pear, and plum trees, and other busi­ness matters.

 

James Ballard was born on 14 February 1791 in Culpepper County, Virginia.  He was a vet­eran of the War of 1812.  Ballard died on 23 June 1872 and is buried in the Ballard Cemetery near Womack in St. Francois County, Missouri.  The recipient of Ballard’s letter, John Randol, Jr., was probably in Cape Girardeau County.
