                                    Booklet, 1939; photocopies.

This is a booklet published to promote economic development in southeastern Missouri.  Sections are devoted to the communities of Sikeston, Charleston, Dexter, Malden, East Prairie, and New Madrid.

W. J. Ivie is listed on the front cover as the publisher of this 56-page booklet which describes and promotes six communities in southeastern Missouri as prosperous and progressive places in which to live.  The Western Historical Manuscript Collection-Rolla has similar, but earlier (1925), booklets promoting communities in St. Francois and Madison counties (R248) and Phelps and Dent counties (R678).  This volume includes cities and towns in Scott, Mississippi, Stoddard, Dunklin, and New Madrid counties in the “Bootheel” section of Missouri.

Each community has its own section [SEE the Shelf List.].  Introductory paragraphs describe the town in glowing terms, followed by individual listings of specific enterprises, which probably were sponsors of the booklet.  The text is interspersed with photographs of the towns, and, occasionally, of the businesses.  The businesses are described in “booster” terminology, but they also contain useful information about their histories, locations, services, and proprietors.  A total of 167 businesses are profiled in the booklet.
