This is the record book of William M. Jenkins, a Baptist minister, road overseer, and justice of the peace at Cross Timbers in Hickory County, Missouri.  Included are records of Hickory County Road District No. 2, 1885-1889; records of marriages, 1874-1899; and Jenkins family genealogical data, ca. 1900s-1963.

William M. Jenkins was a native of Tennessee.  He and his wife, Sarah, came to Missouri in 1869.  After living a few years in Douglas County, they removed to Cross Timbers in Hickory County.  Jenkins spent the remainder of his life on his farm near Cross Timbers.  Jenkins was widely known in Hickory County as a minister, justice of the peace, and overseer of Road District No. 2.  Upon his death on 11 August 1900, the local newspaper described him as “one of the best citizens of Hickory County.”

Jenkins’s record book contains three separate groups of records.  They include records of Hickory County Road District No. 2, including notes on expenditures and receipts and the names of those liable for road work (1885-1889); records of marriages solemnized by Jenkins as minister and justice of the peace (1874-1899); and Jenkins family genealogical data, including obituaries and death notices.  The earliest printed item in the last group is William M. Jenkins’s obituary in 1900, but most of the clippings date from the 1940s and 1950s.  The most recent item is the obituary of Edgar Dickenson, a son-in-law of William M. Jenkins, 25 September 1963.
