This is a promotional booklet published by a real estate agent in Sikeston, Scott County, Missouri.  It praises the agricultural opportunities in “Southeast Missouri” generally, and the Sikeston area in particular.

C. F. Bruton was President of the C. F. Bruton Real Estate and Investment Company of Sikeston.  In 1918, after “eleven years” selling real estate in the region, he published this booklet to further promote the sale of agricultural lands.  The text describes the soils, climate, and infrastructure of the area in glowing terms, noting that the Little River Drainage District was responsible for the reclamation and maintenance of the former swampland.  Bruton also noted that “This is white man’s country,” promising that there would be “no negro farmers where we sell land.”

The booklet names several prominent farmers, with illustrations of some of their crops and homes.  These names have been indexed, along with those of mentioned banks and milling companies.  A photographic portrait of C. F. Bruton is on the title page.
