These are the records of the Odd Fellows Encampment No. 98 in Pierce City, Missouri.  The records consist of minutes of meetings, reports to the Grand Lodge of Missouri, correspondence, membership applications, and financial papers.  Included are minutes of the Aurora Encampment, 1966-1968.

Sarcoxie Encampment No. 98 was chartered on 11 November 1886.  Apparently after it had lapsed, the charter of Sarcoxie Encampment No. 98 was restored on 15 February 1952.  The official headquarters of the Encampment were moved to Pierce City on 8 July 1954.   Active membership through the 1950s was about twenty-five.  On 10 December 1968, Aurora Encampment No. 106 voted to consolidate with the Sarcoxie Encampment.  The minutes of the Aurora Encampment, 1966-1968, are included in the records of the Sarcoxie lodge.

The records of the Sarcoxie Encampment consist of minutes of meetings, reports to the Grand Lodge, membership applications, correspondence, and miscellaneous papers.  The minutes are complete from 7 March 1952 through 20 June 1974.  Meetings generally concerned the admittance and transfer of members, election of officers, work in the various degrees of the lodge, and talks for the “good of the order.”  Five to fifteen members generally attended meetings.

The reports to the Grand Lodge contain information on the Sarcoxie Encampment in tabular form.  Forty-six members were listed in the report to the Grand Lodge in 1952, but there were only ten members by 1974.  Among the leaders (“Chief Patriarchs”) of the lodge were Walter Roy, Gene Taylor, Howard Brand, A. K. Kelly, Frank Hoskins, Alfred Boswell, Bill Powell, H. D. Key, Ed Hirsch, John Hutchison, and Elmer York.
