These are the yearbooks of The Saturday Book Club at Mount Vernon, Lawrence County, Missouri.  The yearbooks include rosters of members, a schedule of meetings, hostesses, and books discussed, and by-laws.

The Saturday Book Club was a Mount Vernon women’s club dedicated to literature.  Membership was limited to twenty members.  Members exchanged books until everyone had read the same title, after which the book was discussed at a meeting.  Meetings were monthly from September through May.  The officers of the club in 1916-1917, the only year for which they are listed, were Mrs. Knapp, president; Mrs. Meyer, vice-president; Mrs. Boucher, secretary; and Mrs. Orr, treasurer.

The Saturday Book Club collection consists of four yearbooks covering the club years 1912-1913, 1913-1914, 1915-1916, and 1916-1917.  These booklets, distributed in advance of the club year, advised members of titles to be discussed as well as the leaders and hostesses of each meeting.  Each contains a list of members, a schedule of the meetings, the names of hostesses and discussion leaders, and the by-laws of the club.

The Saturday Book Club was no longer extant in 1972 when the Lawrence County Historical Society compiled Lawrence County Missouri History (Mount Vernon, Mo., 1974).
