R Logan Club (Marble Hill, Mo.).
65 Cash
and expense account, 1888.
One folder, photocopies.
This is the financial record of a
political club in Marble Hill, Bollinger County, Missouri, which supported the
Benjamin Harrison-Levi P. Morton national Republican ticket in the presidential
election of 1888.
The club was probably named in honor of
John Alexander Logan (1826-1886), a Union Civil War general and Radical
Republican from Illinois who had been Blaine’s running mate in 1884.
This brief account lists the income and
expenses of the club. The first entry
occurs on 26 September 1888 and the last on 5 December 1888. The best direct evidence of the purpose of
the organization is the entry for 1 November, “Paid for Harrison & Morton
Banner.” The other entries list
members and their contributions, and miscellaneous expenditures.
