These are programs for the annual “show and celebration” of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association, held at Ava in Douglas County, Missouri.  The illustrated booklets include schedules, rules, and many advertisements for horse breeding services and local businesses.

The “Missouri Fox Trotting Horse” is a recognized breed of popular riding horses.  Known for their “sure-footedness, easy gait, stamina and gentle disposition,” over 33,000 were registered as of 1989.  Every year in late summer the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association holds a “show and celebration” at its grounds near Ava in Douglas County, Missouri.  At this meet, lasting several days, competitions are held and champions are crowned in several classes.  The first “Grand Champion” was named in 1960, and a photograph of the previous year’s winner always graces the cover of the annual program.

This series of programs is complete for the years 1966 through 1997, with the exception of the programs for 1975, 1990, and 1996.
