770 Records, 1960-1970.
One folder.
These are records of the Happy Hatters Club, a women’s club dedicated to hat-making at Rolla in Phelps County, Missouri. The records include minutes of meetings, membership records, and miscellaneous papers.
The Happy Hatters Club was organized in Rolla on 26 April 1960. The charter group consisted of seven members. An offshoot of the Friendship Home Economics Club, the Happy Hatters aimed to learn millinery with as few organizational and administrative complications as possible. Membership soon rose to fifteen and in 1967 was limited to twenty members. Although meetings were partly social affairs, the main business was hat-making. Among the mainstays of the club were Jeanne Martin, Velma Mansbridge, and Frances Christianson. The group disbanded about 1970.
