This is a souvenir commemorative program for the dedication of a statue of Simón Bolívar at Bolivar in Polk County, Missouri, on 5 July 1948.  The Presidents of the United States and Venezuela attended the ceremony.

The Simón Bolívar Memorial Foundation was chartered in 1948 to honor the memory of its namesake, specifically “at the unveiling of his statue at Bolivar, Missouri.”  The statue was a gift of the “people and government of Venezuela” to the people of Bolivar.  The resulting dedication ceremony turned into an international celebration.  Speakers included President of the United States Harry S. Truman, Venezuelan President Rómulo Gallegos, and Governor of Missouri Phil M. Donnelly.  Soprano Gladys Swarthout of the Metropolitan Opera sang the national anthems and the United States Air Force Band provided the music.

This 76-page booklet, “sold under the supervision of the Junior Chamber of Commerce,” includes a schedule of events, informative articles about Bolívar and the Foundation, and many advertisements, not only for local businesses, but also for national and international firms.
