This collection consists of four issues of The Whippet’s Tale, the student newspaper for El­lington High School at Ellington in Reynolds County, Missouri.

 

The Whippet’s Tale was a stencil mimeograph monthly newspaper published by and for the students at Ellington High School.  Four issues are available in this collection:

 

      Vol. 3, No. 1 (September 1934)

      Vol. 3, No. 2 (October-November 1934)

      Vol. 4, No. 5 (January 1936)

      [Vol. 4, No.6  (February 1936) (Number and date are missing from front cover.)]

 

Each issue contains news about activities at the school, such as extracurricular teams and clubs, the construction of a new building including a gymnasium in 1936, and programs at the weekly school assembly.  Of particular interest was the “tonsil clinic” held in the fall of 1934, at which three doctors performed 48 tonsillectomies in one day.
