These are photographs and historical information regarding Fred “Spooky” Fife and Sarah Elizabeth “Liz” Fife, proprietors of the Spur tavern on Route 66 near Leasburg in Crawford County, Missouri.
The Spur Tavern was located near Leasburg at the northeastern corner of the junction of Route 66 and State Highway H. Fred and Liz Fife operated the tavern in the 1940s and 1950s. The building burned sometime around 1960.
The collection includes a black and white copy photograph of Fred and Sarah Fife in front of the tavern (circa 1940), and three color snapshots (circa 1999), of the tombstone of Fred and Liz Fife, the former site of the tavern, and another property nearby on Route 66. The donor, a great granddaughter of the Fife, also supplied biographical and historical information on the Fifes and the tavern.
