This is We’ve Come This Far by Faith, a “Centennial Anniversary” booklet for the Second Baptist Church of Neosho in Newton County, Missouri.  The African American congregation was founded in 1876.

The Rev. Phillip Givens organized the Second Baptist Church of Neosho in about March of 1876.  Soon thereafter the congregation acquired property at the intersection of Lincoln and Grant streets, where it has remained.  At one point members of the failed Pleasant Hill Baptist Church united with Second Baptist, and the combined congregation assumed the Pleasant Hill name, but eventually the congregation re-adopted its original name.

The congregation published this 52-page booklet on the occasion of its centennial celebration in July 1976.  Included are sections entitled “Church History and Accomplishments” (pages 10-14) and “Organizations and Auxiliaries” (pages 15-25, with group photographs and individual identifications).  On pages 30-35 there are photographic portraits and brief religious biographies of the current membership, including one white member.  The pastor at the time of the centennial was the Rev. Mack McConnell.
